Clayton Taylor

Newton Engineering is just me, Clayton Taylor, a Brisbane-based structural engineer with 15+ years of experience in engineering consultancies and projects of all sizes. Your project will receive my full attention rather than being passed on to another team member.

I have delivered projects from concept to construction across many sectors, including retail, residential, education, health, industrial, aged care and commercial. I was originally drawn to engineering for the opportunity to regularly face unique problems to solve, and this remains my main source of inspiration.

I also enjoy tutoring one of the capstone subjects for civil engineering students at The University of Queensland. Aside from the joy of seeing students learn throughout the semester, nothing reminds you of how much (or how little) you know about a topic better than trying to explain it to someone in several different ways.

Practical approach

One of the things I'm most proud of — and something that keeps me thinking practically — is having spent time on the building side, whether that's placing concrete or taking a pole-barn shed from analysis model through to construction myself. I like to think through the whole process, from paper to reality, to arrive at designs that deliver on a project's potential without creating a headache for the builder.

The name

Newton is a name from my family tree, and one I'm pleased to carry. It's also, coincidentally, the surname of one of the greatest physicists to have ever lived — the very person whose work laid the foundations for the structural engineering practised today.
